Cell phone sales decline in July

Shipments of cell phones, including personal handy-phone system devices, in Japan fell 11.4% in July from a year earlier to 3.66 million units due to a decline in shipments of cell phones and car telephones, an industrial body said Tuesday.

Amateur Ringtone Site to Match Donations

No we are not talking about Jamster or Dirty Hippo; we are talking about a small amateur ringtone site by the name of Nextpimp.com.

They are willing to match all donations 100 percent up to $5,000 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina that has devastated the Gulf coast of Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. What this means in essence is that with your help $10,000 will be donated to help the victims that need all of our help in order to see a gleam of hope in what is fast becoming one of the worst disasters in America's history.

This is a very large amount from a small amateur ringtone website but as stated by Jeremy Schoemaker, site administrator, “Nextpimp.com is always looking for ways to give back something to its users and to the community as a whole. What better way than giving not only to our community but to victims of Hurricane Katrina, which has taken so much, from so many.”

Motorola hits the wrong note with 'iPhone'

You could have been trampled yesterday by the herd of analysts rushing to pour cold water on the gadget already dubbed the "iPhone" - the Motorola ROKR, the first mobile phone to incorporate Apple's dominant iTunes music software, described as "pretty cool" by Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, when he unveiled it on Wednesday.

"The iTunes ROKR looks like a lemon," Dario Betti, a senior analyst at Ovum, said. "We haven't had a chance to test it, but there's a string of bad decisions. The ROKR is a step backwards - it doesn't have a megapixel camera, the Bluetooth [wireless connection system] is limited, there's a poor user interface and this isn't even a 3G phone."
